A Glimpse of Steele County

It’s hard to imagine that May 1 will be here in the next two weeks. That means the first four months of 2015 will be history. Where has it gone?
On Saturday, I already saw farmers out in the fields north of Blooming Prairie and west of Waseca. This means farmers and producers are anxious to get the planting completed. The Steele County Times has already received its first ‘Fair Talk’ from Todd Hale. This means that the Steele County Free Fair will be upon us before you know it.
In the next couple of weeks, students from Steele County and Dodge County schools will be attending their prom and after prom parties. And then a few weeks after that, this year’s senior class will be saying goodbye to their communities and heading onto life after high school.
For those who work at the Steele County Times and News Enterprise, the next few months will be the busiest part of our year. In May, we will be putting together a public safety special edition and a graduation special edition. In June, there will be the Blooming Prairie Fourth of July special edition and then in July and August come the county fair special editions that include Mower, Dodge and Steele. Oh and guess what, September will be here once more and we can start thinking about back to school.
Personally, I enjoy this time of the year mostly because of the sunshine and warm days. The warmth feels good on these old bones. It does get hectic on the job, but the group that we have working on these projects makes it fun and enjoyable. And the special editions that we put out are fun to do because we get to meet different types of people from around the communities.
Enjoy the spring and summer months because before you know it we’ll be back in school again.
