A Glimpse of Steele County

In today’s issue, the staff at the Steele County Times is providing our readers something different than most weeks in our newspaper.
Granted, we have had special sections, tabs, etc., but we have never combined two topics into one section before. And that is what our readers will get in the first four pages of the ‘D’ section.
The city of Medford is having two very special events wrapped up into one this weekend.
It is the annual Straight River Days celebration along with the 100-year anniversary of the first graduating class from the Medford School District.
We decided to put together a 4-page section with stories and old photos from old Medford school buildings and stories on the this year’s Straight River Days.
We hope you enjoy the stories that we have written.
I want to put out a special thanks to John Gross. As many in Medford know, this main is a walking historical encyclopedia and knows almost everything about the history of Medford. He provided us the old history photos, as well as wrote a nice piece portraying the important pieces of the 100 years from 1915 to 2015.
It is really interesting to find out about the history of a community. And reading through some of the stories our staff and John have written, it is amazing the work that has been done to move the community’s education system forward.
So please take time to enjoy the stories and the historical photos of the buildings. It was fun to put something together like we did this week for our readers.
