A Glimpse of Dodge County

The cast and crew of the one-act play are scheduled to perform tomorrow afternoon at the state finals at O’Shaughnessy Auditorium on the St. Catherine’s University campus in St. Paul.
McKaila Klejeski, a member of the Triton FFA and co-president of the organization, has recently been named the Star Farmer for Region 8. She now is one of eight FFA members eligible for the prestigious Minnesota Star Farmer award. That award will be announced this spring at the state FFA convention.
Makaila wasn’t the only local FFA member to be honored at the recent Winter Leadership Day. Mary Moenning won first place in public speaking and will compete at state. Seven chapter members will receive their Minnesota State FFA degree at the state convention, while other members also earned honors.
Twenty-six members of the Business Professionals of America at Triton High School also earned top honors at regional competition and will be going on to compete at the state event.
Students from all three of these groups were recognized at Monday’s school board meeting.
Three members of the one-act play cast presented a short excerpt of the play for the board and Moenning gave her award-winning speech. Klejeski also spoke about her Star Farmer degree and explained some of the other FFA honors.
BPA Advisor Rebecca Standager was also at the board meeting and said that 80 percent of the BPA students participating in the regional events scored well enough to advance to state competition. She said that within the region, Triton has the second highest number of students going to the state event, exceeded only by Waseca which offers BPA as a class, not an extracurricular activity.
It was also pointed out that a diploma was recently given to a student who, although he had not met all the requirements to graduate with his class, had stayed with it and now received a diploma. This makes the fourth time this year, High School Principal Craig Schlichting said, that a student completed their high school credits in this fashion.
Superintendent Brett Joyce added that he was proud of all of these Triton students.
