A Glimpse of Dodge County

I’ve mentioned them several times over the past month or so but once again the cast and crew of the Triton One Act Play deserve a mention.
Last Thursday they performed “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” before an audience of play goers and three judges at St. Catherine University in St. Paul. They were representing southeastern Minnesota in the Minnesota State High School League-sponsored state One Act Play Festival.
And from all accounts they represented Region 1A and Triton very well. At the end of the day they were one of the five schools in Class A who were rated a “starred performance.”
Unlike state athletic competitions, in the One Act there is no direct competition between schools. A school from each region performs and the judges are rating that individual performance only and not comparing it to any of the others. The ones who meet the judges’ criteria are designated as “starred.”
This is the third time a group of Triton performers has made it to the state festival but it is the first time they have starred.
Again, congratulations to directors John Schreiber and Vicki Reiser and the cast and crew of Triton’s One Act Play for a job well done.
And, coincidently or not, the cast has been chosen and rehearsals are getting under way for the Triton spring musical. This year’s selection is the well-known “Fiddler on the Roof.”
February is also “I Love to Read” month at many schools throughout the area and Triton is no exception. Literacy is one of the district’s goals this year and especially at the elementary school they take I Love to Read Month seriously.
All month the elementary students have been working hard to reach their reading goals. And I understand that at the end of the month there will be a fun celebration for all the students.
