Eagle Scout project, seal coat bids, routine items addressed by council

An Eagle Scout project, awarding seal coat bids and the results of a water tank inspection were among the items discussed at the most recent West Concord City Council meeting last week.
Council members gave their approval to an Eagle Scout project by West Concord Scout John Zeller. Zeller requested permission to design and install a memorial honoring veterans and public safety officers at Veterans Park in West Concord as his Eagle Scout project.
Preliminary ideas had been presented to the council at an earlier meeting. A communication to the council from Zeller last week indicated said that he scaled back his original idea due to funding issues. He is hoping to raise between $5,000 and $15,000 for the project.
Councilmembers approved the idea for the memorial if Zeller can obtain the needed funding. Zeller said he would have further details available for the May meeting.
City Engineer Joe Palen told councilmembers that bids had been opened for the 2016 crack fill and seal coat improvement projects with four bids submitted. Low bid for the work was Pearson Bros. Inc. with a bid of $34,277.50. Their bid was slightly lower than the estimated cost of $34,575.
Pearson’s bid was accepted.
The council also received the report of the water storage tower inspection performed by Maguire Iron, Inc.
