Draheims named 2019 Kasson Festival in the Park Grand Marshalls
For the almost 50 years that Mona and Roger Draheim have lived in Kasson, they have been involved in the community in some way.
Thats why its so fitting that they were selected by the Kasson Festival in the Park Committee as this year’s Grand Marshalls.
For the Draheims they were shocked that they were picked.
“I gave the phone to my husband because I was in tears,” Mona said.
During those almost 50 years, the Draheims have been involved in a variety of different ways including being involved with the Dodge County Relay For LIfe since the beginning, serving on the board for the preschool program at St. John’s Lutheran, serving on the Library Board, Friends of the Library, and Kasson Chamber of Commerce just to name a few.
Until 2016 Mona and her husband also owned Jimmys Pizza, which they owned for 25 years.
Aside from running a stable Main Street business in the community, the business also helped the community in many ways, including making donations to many different youth programs and being sponsors of the Kasson Festival in the Park.
The Draheims aren’t strangers to receiving honors in Kasson, as they were named Business People of the Year in 2004 by the Kasson Chamber of Commerce.
Although they are still appreciative of the award 15 years later, Mona explained that being honored as the Festival in the Park Grand Marshalls is different because the committee isn’t just made up of business people but instead every day community members.
“It's quite a good recognition to be recognized by members of the community,” Mona said.
The Kasson Festival in the Park parade is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
