Dodger Days expands in its third year
How can you go wrong with a street dance, dog shows and bingo?
Dodger Days, now in its third year, has it all and is scheduled from June 13-16 in Dodge Center. The festival is designed as a city-wide celebration, said co-organizer Kristy Faber.
Hundreds attended last year. “We’ve greatly expanded our offerings,” she said. “We’re hoping word is getting out and we’d love to double it.”
The festival kicks off with a city-wide garage sale on June 13. Start time is 8 a.m. Then there’s a full roster of events from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., including root beer floats, bounce house, vintage bike rally, big truck display, cotton candy and bunnies, and more. Open mic night is at 6 p.m.
On June 14, there will be a fireman’s feed from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Fire Hall. A silent auction for Triton wrestling will be held, with registration at 5 p.m. The event runs through 7 p.m.
New this year is the street dance/beer tent, which will be held under a tent at North Park. The Poor Boy Ramblers will provide live country music, Faber said, from 7 to 10 p.m. on June 14.
If you want to make a night of it, you can continue the party from 9:30 to midnight on June 14 at the American Legion with reggae band Thomas and the Shakes playing.
Continuing on Saturday, June 15, start your day off right with yoga in the park at 9 a.m. A chalk art contest also begins at 9 a.m. and a 4-H Canine Show will be held at 11 a.m. at North Park.
Food trucks open their doors — or, in this case, windows — on June 15 at 10 a.m. There you’ll find an array of foods, including BBQ, shaved ice, hamburgers and brats, ice cream, popcorn and cotton candy, coffee, tacos and smash burgers. All trucks will be set up at the park.
Bingo is new this year, and you’ll have two chances to play. Once at 10 a.m. under the new pavilion, and again at 1 p.m., which is also under the new pavilion, Faber said.
Fireworks top off the night on June 15, which are at North Park compliments of McNeilus Steel.
On June 16, there is a fly-in breakfast at the Dodge Center airport from 7 a.m. to noon.
Church in the park by Praise Fellowship Church will be held at 10 a.m. on June 16.
“It’s a great way to celebrate our community and enjoy all of the wonderful things this community has to offer,” Faber said. “Whether it be on Main Street, at North Park or at the Legion, we have great events for friends, family and neighbors to enjoy our little city.”
