Debra Kay Leighton, 60, Owatonna
Debra Kay Leighton, age 60, was born on Dec. 20, 1959 in Faribault. Debbie passed away on Nov. 2, 2020 in Owatonna.
Debbie grew up in Kasson, where she graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School in 1978. She attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology. She worked in the printing industry in Milwaukee and then transferred to Burbank, Calif. where she worked until her retirement.
Debbie was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan and loved country music and westerns. A gifted artist, she has left behind many paintings for her family to enjoy.
Debbie loved animals and had numerous dogs throughout the years. A talented equestrian, Debbie owned, rode and showed horses throughout her life. She was a founding member of the Cowboy Social Club, a nonprofit organization and enjoyed doing charitable work. Above all, Debbie was a very kind and loving person to her family and friends and was loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her mother, Kay Famulare and step-father, Joe Famulare of Lake City; sister, Kathy (Gregg) Kirkland of Lake City and brother, Michael Grant of Toluca Lake, Calif.
Debbie was preceded in death by her sister, Cheri Leighton of Burbank, Calif.; step-brother, Joey Famulare of Rochester; father Jack Leighton of Iowa; her maternal grandparents Glenn and Arline Ronning of Kenyon and her paternal grandparents, Ed and Ann Leighton of West Concord.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, at 1 p.m. at the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon. In lieu of flowers charitable donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter, 7900 West 78th St., Suite 100, Mpls., MN 55439.
