Cobras keep searching for first victory

The Triton girls basketball team dropped their sixth straight game to open the season last week as they fell to Hayfield on Dec. 15 and Tri-City United last Friday. While the early results are discouraging, they’re doing their best to try to keep things positive.
The Cobras started their week by hosting Hayfield and while they shot decently from the field (20-for-50, 40%), they took too many jump shots. Triton jacked up 14 three-pointers over the course of the game, but could only make one and had one attempt from the free throw line.
The offensive problems dug a hole for the Cobras and when the smoke cleared, the Vikings had handed Triton a 76-42 loss.
Alexis Melder lead the Cobras with 13 points and added four steals on the defensive end while Claudia Hodgman pitched in with eight points and four rebounds. Kiara Boeck was also effective on the glass with seven rebounds to go with six points. However, the lack of aggressiveness was the focal point of the defeat.The Cobras had a chance to respond against Tri-City United on Friday night, but couldn’t get anything to fall. Triton shot 28 percent for the game and their struggles from three-point land continued with a 2-for-12 performance.
