Chief Sjolander goes to Washington

Kenyon Police Chief Sjolander is back home this week after a whirlwind trip to the nation’s capital last week where he participated in a briefing by the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.
Sjolander, who is known for the Facebook page that has garnered more than 24,00 “likes,” said before he left that when he first received the invitation from the White House he thought it was a fake.
“I was sent an email asking if I was interested in attending a briefing at the White House,” Sjolander wrote on the Department’s Facebook page. “I first thought the email was a joke or some sort of scam because why on earth would a small town police chief be invited to something like that.”
The invitation turned out to be real, however, and after consulting with his family and city officials he responded that he would attend.
And so last Wednesday morning Sjolander boarded a flight at Rochester International Airport for Washington DC.
He reported on his Facebook page that he did a little sight-seeing Wednesday and posted photos he had taken of some of the sites, including the Washington monument.
