Cars, hula hoops, pin-up girls come to DC Legion

It could have been a scene from
summers-gone-by earlier this month as vintage and classic cars, hula hoops and pin-up girls were at the Dodge Center American Legion Post.
The evening was the latest in a series of summer car shows at the Legion Post.
According to Steve Peterson of Hay-
field, who is the organizer for the events, four shows were originally scheduled. The first show was scheduled for June 4 but was rained out. It was rescheduled for the next week but again the weather was a problem and attendance was min- imal although six people did show up for a bratwurst eating contest.
The weather was much better in July
when 68 cars were on display and those
attending were invited to participate in what was billed as the “first-ever” apple pie eating contest in Dodge Center.
The cars and the people were back in August for not only the car show but this time two contests – hula hoop com- petition for both youngsters and adults and a pin-up girl contest.
Colton Smisek was also on hand to provide music.
The summer fun is not over yet.
The season finale will take everyone back to the 50s with a High School Sock Hop Dance on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Featured contest will be for the best
50s dress. The finale will begin at 6:30 and continue until 11:30 p.m. and will feature music and dancing inside the Legion hall.
In addition to Peterson and the Le- gion, the car shows are sponsored by Hardware Hank, Citizens Bank, Harolds Club,  Weber, Leth & Woessner, Lowell’s Auto Sales and Huckleberry.
