Bruce Skow, 79, Kasson

Bruce Alan Skow passed away Oct. 7, 2016, at Fairview Care Center, Dodge Center.
Bruce was born June 13, 1937, on a farm near Rutland, Iowa, to Alan and Marjorie (Lansing) Skow. The day Bruce was born, it rained so much that the doctor had to wade through knee-deep water walking up the driveway.
Bruce was a farmer, and he loved it.  He took great pride in showing his grand champion steer at the Humboldt Iowa County Fair in the early 1950s. Bruce also grew up loving horses. His first horse was a Shetland pony bought from a carnival in Humboldt, Iowa. He was known to give his cousins and friends some wild rides. In 1954, his family moved from Rutland, Iowa, to a farm west of Stewartville. When he quit farming, due to Parkinson’s disease, he continued to drive tractor for Delbert and Laurie Lecy.
Bruce married Karen Scharberg on Oct. 28, 1961, at Evanger Lutheran Church in Sargeant.  In July of 1965, their daughter, Patricia Diane, was born. They enjoyed camping on the Mississippi River and traveling the western states to Phoenix and San Bernardino and going up north with the family. Bruce also enjoyed deer hunting with his hunting buddies for many years.  He especially enjoyed his two grandkids, going to their many school events and giving them rides on his tractor. 
In 2007, Bruce and Karen bought a house at South Fork in Kasson.  As a result of having a stroke and Parkinson’s disease, Bruce moved to Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center in July 2011.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karen; daughter, Patty (Dennis) Foster, Mantorville; grandson, Jason (Amber) Foster and great-grandson, Elliott Foster, Kasson; granddaughter, Julia Foster, Charlotte, North Carolina; brother Keith Skow, Byron; sisters JulieAnn Wickstrom, Burnsville; and Diane Johnson, San Bernardino, Calif.; brother-in-law Arlan (Sharon) Scharberg, Hayfield and several nieces and nephews.
We especially want to thank all our friends, neighbors and family for their support and help. Thank you to Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center for their wonderful, compassionate care. Also, thank you to St. Croix Hospice for their end-of-life care.
Funeral services were held Oct. 11, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kasson with Pastor Randy Fett officiating. Dibble Funeral Home and Cremation Service handled arrangements.
