Bear sighting reported in Dodge County

A black bear was spotted earlier this week in the northeast part of Dodge County, prompting local officials to issue a public advisory.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said the bear is a small adult male, estimated to weigh between 125 and 150 pounds. Authorities believe the bear is likely passing through and poses no immediate threat if left undisturbed.
“We want to remind residents not to approach or interact with the bear,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “It will likely exit the area soon.”
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources echoed that message, urging residents to take simple precautions to avoid attracting the animal.
“Take down bird feeders and keep garbage cans secured on non-garbage days,” the DNR advised. “These steps help encourage the bear to move along naturally.”
Officials noted that black bear sightings are becoming more common in southern Minnesota as the species gradually expands its range.
Residents who spot the bear are encouraged to report it through the DNR’s online tracking system at dnr.state.mn.us
