Forty-One Boys Report For K-M Football Practice
Varsity football practice started on August 12 with 41 boys reporting to practice. This is a fine group of boys with excellent leadership from the upperclassmen especially Co-captains, Jeff Stevenson and Jeff Wenz.
During the first week there will be two practices daily 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., each practice will last about 1 ½ hours.
The team is practicing in T-shirts and shorts, working on individual non-contact skills such as; passing, catching kicking, etc. Also many drill to develop strength, agility and speed all of which should get the boys in better condition for next week when the heavy hitting begins.
The teams first test will come on August 24 when K-M will participate in a quadrangular scrimmage at Harmony. Spectators are welcome to watch the 10 a.m. scrimmage.
Regular season play begins on August 30 with St. Charles here at 7:30.
St Charles is a conference game because of the addition of Wabasha High School to the HVL each school will have eight conference games on their schedule and one non-conference game. The open date rotates the same as Byron’s open date, therefore, K-M will be playing Byron for the non-conference opponent, with Dodge Center being dropped from the schedule.

D.C.I. is featured on Paul Harvey!
Most people have heard of Paul Harvey’s “Rest of the Story”, which appears in the late afternoon on KROC Radio in Rochester.
Two weeks ago the Dodge County Independent Newspaper was partof Paul Harvey’s Rest of the Story”.
The just of the story was that a woman brought this important document in to be photographed-reproduced. She was very meticulous about taking good care of that document because the value was $30,000-that the document actually turned out to be a college diploma that was being reproduced, not the historic document the photographer anticipated. Several people called and said they heard the story on the broadcast.
“So now you know the you know the rest of the story” and how the local newspaper made the national radio news.

New ACT website devotedto students
ACT today launched http://www.actstudent.org an new website for students taking the college admissions exam. The new site features information that changes according to the needs the student has during the school year.
“Students need clear information when preparing for college and for admissions tests,” said Jon Erickson, vice president-educational services. “We have worked to make the information friendly and easu-to0find. We know that this time is stressful for students and we want to make sure that they have access to information that will make the process as easy as Possible.”
ACT has organized the material on the website based on experience with students’ website visits and knowledge of the questions they ask ACT staff. The information at www.actstudent.org will change, anticipation students’ needs as they register for the test, prepare for the test and use the test scores after taking the test. Students ask a lot of questions, like what kind of calculator can be used. We’ve put the answers to these popular questions in easy-to-find locations,” Erickson says.

Teddy Bear Picnic!
Children ages three to twelve, parents, grandparents and family members are all invited to a Teddy Bear Picnic on Saturday, August 23 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Restoration House in Mantorville. There will be a picnic lunch, treats, activities, music, stories and special surprises. Reservations are required and there is a per person charge. Tickets are available at The Chocolate Shoppe and Mantorville Art Guild. Children need to be accompanied by an adult. All proceeds to the Mantorville Restoration Association Historic Properties.
