This Valentines, give the gift of life
Red Cross urges all eligible donors to give at February bloodmobiles.
Every February, across the country, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged amongst loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine’s. This year, the American Red Cross encourages blood donors to give to something that can last a lifetime... a pint of their blood.
North Central Blood Services ---- which includes parts of Minnesota, western Wisconsin, northern Iowa, and eastern South Dakota — would like to remind all eligible blood donors that: Blood must be donated by human beings; it cannot be manufactured. A typical adult has 10 — 12 pints of blood. About 4.5 million patients need a transfusion each year. One person can donate blood six times per year.
Nearly 29 million units of blood components are transfused each year. And with an aging population and advances in medical treatments and procedures requiring blood transfusions, the demand for blood continues to increase.
During this month of Valentines and heartfelt deeds, give blood in the name of someone you love. The American Red Cross has scheduled the following bloodmobile(s) in our area:
February 9, 2 — 7 p.m., Hayfield, MN, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 204 Third Ave NE February 10, 12:30 — 6:30 p.m., Kasson, MN, Holy Family Parish February 11,
1 — 7 p.m., Dodge Center, MN, American Legion, Old Hwy 14/Co, Rd. 34 February12, 12 — 5 p.m., Kasson, MN, So Zumbro Lutheran Church, 4830 SW 120th Ave.
For an appt. On Feb. 12 at South Zumbro, call Cindy at 507-273-9045. Anyone who is at least 17 years of age, weighs at least 110 pounds, and is considered to be in good health may be eligible to donate. There is no upper age limit. Identification is required.
