6th annual Larger than Life opens in Mantorville

The 6th annual Larger than Life art display got off to a flying start Saturday morning at Riverside Park in Mantorville. In addition to the 29 images and one sculpture on display, this year’s opening event featured an art fair, music in the bandshell and food provided by the KM Lions Club and Mrs. Patty’s Sweet Treats. Musical entertainment was by Orchid Jane and The Midnight Hounds.
The outdoor art display got its start during the COVID 19 shutdowns when Brian and Mary Jo Hindal decided there should be something that people could visit but still keep their distance from others. That first year saw eight pieces of art from four artists. This year 30 artists participated.
It was also decided that a formal unveiling of the artwork should be included and area artists and should also have an opportunity to display their works. Finally, since Mantorville recently constructed a bandshell at the park, it was decided musical entertainment should also be included.
The artwork includes both photographs and paintings and drawings that are reproduced on 4’ x 8’ panels that are attached to steel easels. The easels are placed throughout the park.
The artist participating in this year’s show include John Flatten, Theresa Hoaglund, Layne Noser, Sandy Hokanson, Mary Ayshford, Carla Webster, April Zacher, Karen McClamroch, Willow Steel, Jen Pietrzak, Carrie Pompeii, Darryl and Michele Clements, Natalyn Ulwelling, Annemieke van der Werff, Brian Hindal, Mary Jo Hindal, Tammy Schneider, Gayle Dahl, Missy Lushinsky, John Hazuka, Ashley Lushinsky, Aaron Eckstein, Bekka Berge, Wade Clark, Anne Karner C, Candy Schmidt, Ava Berge and Reed Vander Waal.
Larger than Life will be on display at the park until September 1.
When the pieces are removed from the park, they will be reinstalled at various locations in downtown Mantorville.
Larger than Life is funded by donations from grants, businesses and local residents.
