A treasure hunt  in the DCI

Recently, I resolved to spend more focused time actually reading and exploring my DCI. My usual routine is to flip through it when it arrives, and then set it down—only to pick it up again briefly when the next edition arrives. Not exactly a winning strategy for staying informed!
West Concord’s 41st Survival Days celebration looked like a whole lot of fun, especially the wife-carrying contest. What a hoot!
I learned that Byron is cracking down on e-bike safety. (Whoever thought putting children on motorized vehicles was a good idea should probably have their head examined!)
Kay Fate’s heartfelt article about her husband, Papa Russ, really touched me. His positive attitude and determination to live well despite cancer are an inspiration.
I read about a Rochester man navigating the slow-moving bureaucracy of the immigration system as he works to legally bring his family to the U.S.
Then there was the story of a Kasson father’s path to recovery, made possible with the support of family and community. Stories like these remind us how much strength can come from people who refuse to give up on one another.
And last — but certainly not least — the shining star of the entire edition was Pastor Jake Hanson’s essay, “Practical Ways to Find Joy.” What a treasure! If you read only ONE article in the DCI, make it this one. And if you’re like me and tend to flip through the paper and then forget about it, I recommend slowing down and taking a second look. You never know what treasures you might find!
