Wisconsin native fills commercial lending role at Alerus

A new face is helping customers at the Alerus branch in Kasson, as Kyle Benish takes over the commercial lending role.
He replaces Matt Bradford, who retired last Friday.
Benish, a senior vice president for business banking, said he will continue to be primarily located in Rochester but will be available to help with Bradford’s existing accounts, as well as all new commercial accounts.

Venue change hearing delayed in Flores case

The decision of where to try the former Minnesota State Patrol trooper whose squad slammed into a passenger car, killing an Owatonna teenager, has been delayed.
A settlement conference and motion hearing were pushed back for the second time in eight weeks.
Shane Elroy Roper, 33, of Hayfield, was expected to appear in Olmsted County District Court on Oct. 21.

Kasson Council split on potential changes to municipal liquor store

For years, the city of Kasson has had its own municipal liquor store.
But with its longtime manager Cathy Pletta retiring, some on the city council are calling for the city to look at selling the business altogether.
“I think that selling liquor is a private venture and is something that we should let private business handle that demand,” Councilmember Paul Johnson said.

Hometown kid turned banker retires from banking

Kasson means a lot to Matt Bradford.
He grew up in the area, graduating from Kasson-Mantorville in 1979. He met his high school sweetheart, Andrea, who worked 42 years for Mayo before retiring.

HHS sounds alarm over potential food benefit pause

Working with two other regional organizations, Minnesota Prairie County Alliance (MNPrairie) will offer an Oct. 25 conference focused on mental health and resilience.
Adults and Disabilities Services Supervisor Brandon Smith said MN Prairie is partnering with NAMI SE MN and SPERO, the local mental health center serving Dodge, Steele, and Waseca counties, to present the Mental Health & Resilience Conference.
