Do we need newspapers?

Part of my enjoyment with
the Minnesota State Fair is to go work at the fair doing, what else, newspaper work.
Besides doing stories and taking photos of local people at the fair, I also volunteer at the Minnesota Newspaper Museum, which is operated by the Minneso- ta Newspaper Foundation of which I serve on the board.

Music gig provides relief for this prosecutor

For the past several years as the top prosecutor handling what will likely go down as one of the greatest crimes ever in Minnesota’s history, Janelle Kendall has needed a stress reliever more than ever. She has found one through a love of music and sharing that passion as the lead singer for a band.

When papers close, cost of government goes up

It’s with great sadness that I noticed yet another Minnesota newspaper has ceased publication within the past couple weeks. This is at least the second newspaper in the state to shut down this year.

The generation of mass shootings

I remember about seven years ago, I was at the urgent care with my mom. I don’t remember what I was there for, some sort of illness or sports injury, but that doesn’t matter.
What matters is I looked up at the TV in the waiting room and saw nothing but pure sadness as the news broke that a shooting had occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School, less than 100 miles from my parents' home in Rhode Island.

Smothered by the American flag

I was smothered in patriotism at the Steele County Free Fair last week.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been caught showing his love for America by embracing the American flag. I got a little wrapped up in America on opening day of the fair.
I was part of the Blooming Prairie Honor Guard that participated in opening ceremonies of the Steele County Free Fair last week.
