Dodge Center resident, Mary Trapp, is a soft-spoken, kind woman, with a lifetime of nursing, education and world travel bubbling just below the surface that can become a veritable geyser of touching, sometimes amazing, stories.
At a special budget workshop Monday evening, Mantorville city council members combed through the proposed 2017 general fund budget and, with the recommendations of City Clerk/Treasurer Cami Reber, whittled the preliminary budget increase in half.
Instead of a seven percent increase over last year’s levy, they’re now looking at a three percent increase.
The group looked at a few necessary upgrades.
West Concord, a town with a population of about 800 at the 2010 census, had nine people run for four offices in the general election. City Administrator Theresa Booms said, “It was a great turnout for the city of West Concord. Just by the number of candidates that applied just shows great spirit and involvement in the community.”
In the mayoral race, the incumbent Jeff McCool, won with 212 votes over Mary Burt with 184.
In the last four years, the number of families accessing the SEMCAC Food Shelf has doubled, Triton High School FFA Advisor Robert Ickler said. The students involved in FFA are working to guarantee that the hundreds of families accessing this food shelf are able to have food to eat.
For their annual fundraiser, the Triton FFA does not participate in a traditional fundraiser.
er Dodge County and a conditional use permit for one more was approved by the Dodge County Planning Commission Nov 2. Also approved were an interim use permit for a new mine for pit run sand and for a home on less than 53 acres in the agricultural district. Public hearings were held during the meeting for all three requests.
Members of the West Concord EDA discussed the future of the 207 West Main Street building at its Nov. 7 meeting.
The EDA chose to table any discussion on moving forward with the sale of the building. The potential buyers of the space will wait until the issue is discussed at next month’s EDA meeting, according to members of the body.
