The Minnesota Sheriff’s Association received 54 applications for its annual state scholarship program, according to Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose.
Out of those, 20 applicants were awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
One of those chosen was Kasson-Mantorville graduate Owen Nelson.
“Owen is from rural Mantorville, is studying law enforcement at RCTC in Rochester, and was likely an easy choice for the board. He graduated from KM in 2025 with high honors, was captain of the football team, captain of the wrestling team, outstanding male athlete of the year, and was on the Presidents list at RCTC,” Rose wrote in a Facebook post. “Owen is the perfect example of the kind of community minded, kind, and caring people we need to take on this calling and serve in our communities. Thank you, Owen, for choosing law enforcement.”
