K-M FCCLA members compete at Southeast Region STAR events
Seventy-nine members of the Kasson-Mantorville High School and Middle School FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) chapter competed at the Minnesota FCCLA Southeast Region STAR Events Competition on Tuesday, Feb. 3, in Stewartville.
STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events designed to help students develop and demonstrate leadership, career readiness, and life skills through individual and team projects, said Michele Lindquist, one of the advisors for the group. Students research a topic, complete a project or service activity, and present their work to a panel of judges.
Some of the areas Kasson-Mantorville students competed in included Food Innovations, Chapter in Review Display, Repurpose & Redesign, Nutrition and Wellness, Focus on Children, Sports Nutrition, Chapter Service, Career Investigations, and Event Management. These projects addressed real-world issues such as healthy living, community service, sustainability, and career exploration.
As a result of their strong performances at the regional competition, students will now have the opportunity to advance to the Minnesota State FCCLA Leadership Meeting in Bloomington on March 27-29, where they will compete against top teams from across the state.
“The Kasson-Mantorville FCCLA chapter is proud of the dedication, creativity, and professionalism demonstrated by its members throughout the competition season and congratulates them on their success at the regional level,” Lindquist said.
