The Byron girls cross country team had 10 athletes run last weekend, and 10 ended up with personal records.
The team finished second place in the highly competitive, 29 Team, multi-state Gopher Division of the Roy Griak Invite at Fort Snelling Golf Course last Saturday.
“The course was magical — like a race-track with athletes from all over the Midwest crushing it,” Head Coach Tom O’Leary said. “ The weather helped too with temps in the low 60s, a light mist and slight breeze. This all added up to an amazing race.”
Byron was led by Dayna Baune, breaking her own school record by more than a minute in a time of 18:37. Three other athletes surpassed the previous school record with McKenzie Schultz in 19:37, Avery Warndahl in 19:40, Ashlynn Mitchell in 19;41. Alexa Charboneau sealed the scoring with her giant personal record at 19:57.
“This team has a super-power and they are leaning into it,” O’Leary said. “Pack running is a whole lot of fun.”
