Youthful Cobras look to play spoiler
When the Triton baseball team takes the field to open the 2016 season, the one thing that they won’t have is experience. The Cobras return just one starter from a season ago and will likely have an uphill climb in the strong HVL conference.
However, for what the Cobras lack in experience, they make up for with a youthful energy that could have them wreak havoc for teams competing for a conference title.
“Hopefully, we’ll wind up playing a spoiler role,” Triton baseball coach Mike Ellingson stated. “The HVL is going to be tough and I don’t think many people will pick us to be near the top, but maybe we’ll have a couple games where we can challenge those top teams and get better every day.”
Second baseman Carson Johnson will be the lone returner for the Cobras as he started the past two seasons at second base. During the early weeks of practice, Johnson has been working out at shortstop and could make a position switch as early as their opener with Dover-Eyota on Friday afternoon.
