Wildcats look to defend Section title

The Dodge County girls hockey team is looking to defend its section championship, as the team heads into the Section 1A tournament as the top seed.

But Head Coach Jeremy Gunderson knows the top goal is to win it all.

“It’s a honor and great reward for the hard work the girls put in all season,” Gunderson said. “Playing a very hard schedule with many ranked teams going 19-3-2 but just like rankings, it’s only a number, so they realize a new season starts now and the goal is winning a state championship.”

The team won its final two games of the regular season, first beating Lakeville South last Friday 6-1.

For the Wildcats Nora Carstensen had two goals, and Daisy Harens, Zoe Heimer, Maysie Koch, and Hannah Peterson each had a goal in the win.

Carstensen also had two assists in the game, along with Heimer, Maren Hodgman, and Kylie Meyer.

Bryn Spreiter, Alexa Van Straaten, and Maysie Koch each had an assist in the win.

Behind the net, Ida Huber stopped 15 out of 16 shots.

In a home matchup the Wildcats defeated Osseo/Park Center 5-0.

Spreiter, Meyer, Maysie Koch, Van Straaten, and Taryn Wernecke each had a goal in the win.

Wernecke had two assists, along with Van Straaten, and Mollie Koch. Josie Fulton, Peterson, Harens, and Claire Dixon each had an assist in the game.

Huber stopped all 17 shots in the shutout.

The Wildcats will host a playoff game on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.
