Triton’s Isiah Wannarka shoots a three-pointer over Lewiston-Altura’s Taylor Ward during its Section 1AA first round game.

Triton wins first playoff game since 2008-09

At the beginning of the season, first-year Triton boys basketball coach Zak Hanegraaf had a dilemma. Due to fall activities or injuries sustained in the first week of practice, three of his players that he had been counting on for minutes sustained injuries that would keep them out for the season.

Such a scenario could have meant that the Cobras would be in for a rough season, but the team stayed with it throughout and were rewarded with their first playoff victory since the 2008-09 season with a 61-60 win over Lewiston-Altura on February 18.

“For our underclassmen, the game speed was starting to slow down for them,” Hanegraaf explained. “They’re now able to make good decisions instead of just reacting to a play. They’re understanding the roles and fulfilling them to the best of their abilities and it’s helped us become a more complete team.”
