Triton seventh-grader nabs hole-in-one

For many golfers, the dream of hitting a hole-in-one is just that – a dream. However, for Triton golfer Abe Myer, he realized that fantasy during a HVL triangular on May 9 when he hit his first hole-in-one on the 11th hole in Zumbrota.

While the thrill of a hole in one is something that any golfer would cherish, this one was special for Myer. Just the day before, he celebrated his 13th birthday which also happened to be the one-year anniversary  of the first time he had played the sport. However, Myer will be the first to admit that the shot was something straight out of the ending of Happy Gilmore.

“I knew it went in, but it was kind of lucky,” Myer admitted. “The wind was going from left to right, so I aimed to the left. I kind of bladed it off the tee and it just kind of worked out.”

At first, it appeared that Myer’s shot was headed for disaster as it bounced off of the cart path, but the carom placed the ball right onto the green. From there, the ball ricocheted of the pin and into the hole to start a celebration that could be heard throughout the course.

“I didn’t see it because I was on a different hole with other kids, but we definitely heard him,” Triton golf coach Joe Hansen laughed. “You knew something happened, but you didn’t know who or what, so I hopped on my cart and saw what it was.”

Throughout the rest of the round, Hansen described the seventh-grader as “walking on cloud nine” and Myer finished with a 49 as the rest of the team referred to him as “Ace.”
