Triton looks to build track program
For the Triton track team, their status toward the bottom of the HVL has been more of a numbers game. Their roster, which consists of 60 athletes, is roughly half of some of the other schools in the conference. That doesn’t mean that the Cobras lack talent as they head into the 2016 season.
“We have great athletes, but we don’t have a boat load of great athletes,” Triton track coach Bruce Huber explained. “We just want to focus on the individual performance and their performance from the beginning of the season to the end of the season.”
On both the boys and girls sides, there’s plenty of potential for the Triton coaching staff to be excited about. Leif Bugum was a state meet participant a year ago in the 100 meter dash and Jax Bryngleson stands out as a sprinter, long jumper and relay participant. The Cobras will also have the services of Garrett Dahms, who excels as a thrower, 400 meter sprinter and relay participant.
The girls have some strong faces too as sophomore Courtney West returns as the school record holder in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs and Nell Graham is poised to break a school record of her own in the 800 meter run. Mariah Lang (high jumper) and Greta Rhodes (sprinter) also figure to be key parts of the team.
