Raymond, VanBeek step down from positions

There will be two new faces on the sidelines of winter sports next school year as a pair of coaches have resigned from their positions.

Kelly Raymond stepped down as the boys basketball coach after three seasons on the job. During his time, he helped lead the KoMets from a 4-22 record in 2012-13 to a 17-10 mark during his first season at K-M. The KoMets took another step forward the following year when they defeated Austin for their first playoff win since 2011.

This past winter, the KoMets had plenty of athleticism, but could never find the level of consistency that they needed to compete in the stacked HVL Blue Division. After a 13-14 record and a first-round loss to Winona in the section tournament, Raymond decided to move on.

“I am very appreciative of the opportunity to coach at K-M high school,” Raymond said in a statement. “I wish them nothing but the best as they move forward. We have had a lot of good things the past three years and it is my hope it will continue.”
