KoMets send Huskies to their kennel

The Kasson-Mantorville wrestling team is beginning to hit its stride toward the end of the regular season schedule and its team success hasn’t waned despite being tested repeatedly throughout the season. 

Last week, the KoMets traveled to Owatonna to take on the Huskies, who were the seventh-ranked team in Class AAA. Even though the Huskies presented another stiff test, K-M passed with flying colors as they picked up a 46-15 victory in the dual.

The night started off well for K-M as Jace Minelli held off a late charge from Kaden Nelson to earn a 13-8 decision at 106 pounds. Owatonna would even the score after Riley Becker picked up a decision of his own by defeating Robby Horsman 10-6 at 113 pounds.

From there, K-M would earn back-to-back pins as Jared Johnson defeated Trevor Schroeder at 120 pounds and Brady Laumb defeated Jacob Harlicker at 126 pounds. After staking a big lead as a team, Keaten Schorr couldn’t hold off Cade King at 132 pounds as he dropped a 3-2 decision to close the gap to 15-6.

The KoMets would make a run at this point as they would take six straight matches to blow the dual open. Isaac Haman earned a majority decision at 138 pounds after defeating Tanner Cole by a 16-3 margin. Patrick Kennedy would follow that up with a 15-9 decision over Dillon Sheehy at 145 pounds and Ethan Shea would defeat Bryce Goodman in a 3-1 decision at 152 pounds.

After Shea, K-M would get three straight falls as Brady Berge would earn his school-record 222nd career victory with a fall at 1:14 against Journey Peterson at 160 pounds. Andy Bigelow would follow with a fall at 3:16 against Michael Flom (170 pounds) and Aaron Berge would earn a fall at 1:13 against Griffin Thorn to give K-M a 43-6 lead.

With the dual out of reach, Brandon Moen would defeat Noah Ryan by a 5-2 decision at 195 pounds before the match of the night between Brett Paulson and Goy Tut.

 The 220 pounders battled throughout the match and Tut would score a takedown late in the match to take a 3-2 lead. As the gym exploded in anticipation of a Husky victory, Paulson fought back and scored a takedown in the final seconds that sent the KoMet bench into a frenzy and secured the 3-2 decision.
