KoMets score 55 points to crush La Crescent

One of the biggest microcosims of last season’s Kasson-Mantorville football team was when they took a trip on a rainy Friday night to take on La Crescent. As the rain came down, the KoMets made several mistakes during the game and couldn’t find a way to make the explosive plays needed to take out the Lancers in a 21-13 defeat.

As the KoMets took the field last Friday night in a rematch, several players remembered what that game felt like and wanted to make sure this game wouldn’t get away.

“We expected to win that game, but we made some mistakes,” K-M football coach Broc Threinen recalled. “It made for a long bus ride home and everybody remembered that wanted to get the bad taste out of their mouth.”

K-M would find a way to erase those bad feelings with a 55-point first half that fueled a 55-14 victory over the Lancers. This game looked like someone playing Madden on rookie difficulty as the KoMets scored 28 points in the first eight minutes of the game and never looked back.

Sophomore quarterback Matt Winkle helped lead the way for K-M by throwing a touchdown and running in for two more while making the right reads to help Brendan Knoll (2 TD) and Noah Ryan (1 TD) break into the open field on multiple occasions.

“Matt is really understanding the offense,” Threinen observed.
