KoMets rebound against La Crescent

The Kasson-Mantorville boys soccer team opened with an up-and-down week that saw a crushing defeat against Albert Lea, but a solid section victory against La Crescent.

The KoMets opener took place last Thursday at KMTelecom Stadium in Kasson and the Tigers were quick to take advantage of a K-M team that was transitioning to new coach Leo Barbosa. After a pair of goals in the first half, Albert Lea turned on the jets in the second half controlling the game and tallying four second-half goals in a 6-0 rout.

“We knew that the first game of the season with a new team and new coach would be a challenge,” K-M head coach Leo Barbosa said after his first game leading the varsity after a year as the junior varsity coach. “But, we had many aspects to be happy about and others that we can learn from and get better.”

It would have been understandable if the KoMets experienced a hangover after a defeat like the one against Albert Lea, but they showed little ill effects as they hosted the Lancers on Saturday afternoon. The KoMets got off to a much better start when Kollin Johnson scored just
