KoMets earn big section win in opening week
The Kasson-Mantorville girls soccer team would like to pick up where it left off a season ago. As the defending HVL champions and the top seed in the Section 1AA tournament last fall, they’ll need to rack up victories against the teams that will be their biggest challenge in a possible march to the state tournament.
In its opening week, K-M took a small step toward that goal as they picked up a 1-0 win over La Crescent last Saturday afternoon.
“It’s always a close, intense game when these two meet,” K-M girls soccer coach Chris Soderberg said after the victory. “Today was no different.”
The two teams that found themselves at the top of the section a year ago battled intensely throughout the first half before Ashlyn Liebenow found a golden opportunity. Freshman Gwen Dole was able to lace a nice pass through the box to find the senior for the KoMets’ first goal of the season.
