K-M/Triton earns first conference win in program history

JV team also picks up first trophy in program history

As a program that’s just entered its third season, the Kasson-Mantorville/Triton gymnastics team has set an emphasis of improvement. Over the first couple weeks of this year, K-M/Triton has taken steps in the right direction, but hadn’t broken through to pick up its first conference win in program history.

That wait ended last Thursday when K-M/Triton defeated Stewartville by a score of 116.775 to 115.675.

“I was really proud of the gymnasts and their performance,” K-M/Triton Head Coach Laura Strandell declared. “We still have a lot of room for improvement and I’m looking forward to seeing the growth as we move ahead.”

Cambryn Rubin turned in another solid effort in the victory as she placed first in the all-around competition with first place finishes in the uneven bars (8.425), floor routine (8.625) and a second-place finish in the vault (8.425) for an overall score of 32.6.

Halie Abbott also took home a title for K-M/Triton as she scored an 8.5 on the vault to win the category and a third-place finish on the beam with a score of 7.325.

The success for K-M/T stretched beyond the varsity level as the junior varsity team had a strong effort at the Woodbury Invitational. Olivia Torkelson lead the way with a third-place finish in the floor routine (7.1 score). Her teammate, Jenna Jenson also placed fourth in the all-around competition.

With a strong effort throughout, the JV team had a score of 99.65, which was good for second place in the eight-team field. The trophy represents the first trophy at any level in program history.
