K-M shines at Chuck Ramthun Invitational

Schneider takes down 18-year old triple jump record

The Kasson-Mantorville track and field team is beginning to hit its stride during the middle part of the schedule. That became apparent on May 5 when the KoMets headed to Byron for the Chuck Ramthun Invitiational where titles were won, records were broken and confidence was established.

“We’ve had some great practice efforts as of late,” K-M track and field coach Erik Myran revealed. “The warm weather and great competition can bring out those personal records and we’re looking forward as we head into the true team and HVL competitions this week.”

K-M triple jumper Kelli Schneider had herself a day in Byron as she broke the school triple jump record with a mark of 34’00.50”. The record was set by Kristi Miller in 1998 (33’9”) and was good for second at the meet behind Byron’s Emma Weatherly (36”6.5”).

“Kelli is very consistent,” Myran pointed out. “She is also very dillegent in her work.”

Tyler Wanous also had an excellent performance as he recorded a six-foot high jump while winning the event in the process. He also set personal records in the 400 meter dash, triple jump and 4x400 relays.

“Tyler had an amazing night,” Myran exclaimed. “It was the first six-foot jumper we’ve had in a few years and he set all those personal records.”
