K-M Blue Diamonds earn sportsmanship award
The K-M Blue Diamonds were recognized on Friday afternoon for their outstanding sportsmanship with the Youth 1st Team Sportsmanship Award for their conduct during a tournament in Owatonna last month.
The Youth 1st Team Award recognizes positive behavior from players, coaches and everyone associated with the team (parents, fans and spectators). The award was determined by tournament umpires who participated in a team selection vote after each game based on the conduct and sportsmanship of each team. Teams with a positive selection to game ratio of 75 percent or higher are recognized as Youth 1st teams.
“It places emphasis on how you play the the game, which is more important whether than if you win or lose,” said Youth 1st Founder/Director Mark Arjes. “It has become increasingly difficult to get coaches and officials for youth sports because of the abuse that they take during games.
