It was a great Saturday in Dodge County
Things were hopping in Dodge County last Saturday as community Christmas celebrations were held in Kasson, Mantorville, Hayfield, Dodge Center, and West Concord.
Although each celebration was different, there were a few similarities. Santa Claus was everywhere. In every community he was there to listen to the Christmas wishes of the youngsters. Also common to the communities were Fire Departments collecting Toys for Tots and volunteers manning the Red Kettles for the Salvation Army.
There was also food all around. In addition to the lunches being served by various businesses and organizations there were more than enough Christmas cookies and goodies around to satisfy any sweet tooth.
One unique activity was in West Concord where the Rochester Lions were at Heritage Bank checking the eyes of preschoolers in an attempt to detect any vision problems early. This is a project of Lions Clubs and the Kasson-Mantorville Club has also done these early vision tests.
Not a bad deal for the kids. Stop by the bank, tell Santa what you want for Christmas, pick up a book or toy and get your eyes checked.
One other note on the West Concord events. For everyone who counts on those homemade donuts a couple of times a year there is more good news. Just in time for Christmas in West Concord, the American Legion Post was able to get a new automated donut maker. They can now turn out 3-1/2 dozen donuts a minute. And since they are still using the previous donut maker that did 25 a batch they should always have enough.
If you didn’t get your fill of donuts Saturday, don’t worry. The donut makers will be hard at work again on Fat Tuesday in February.
Congratulations to Chaplain Roger Langworthy
On another note, congratulations are in order to Roger Langworthy, Chaplain Coordinator of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office. He has been with the chaplain program since its inception and has also been the pastor of Praise Fellowship Church in Dodge Center for 35 years. He was honored last Sunday by the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association as the Volunteer of the Year.
We will have more on Langworthy and his award in the DCI in the future.
