Vic Dvorak, 93, Hayfield

Vic Dvorak, 93, passed away peacefully at home on February 19, 2025, surrounded by the warmth of his family and the memories of a life well-lived.
Born in Wilber, Nebraska on January 1, 1932, to Victor A. Dvorak and Helen (Bartos) Dvorak, Vic’s life was marked early on by a spirit of service and dedication. After graduating from high school in Troy Mills, Iowa in 1951, he joined the Navy just two weeks later. Serving as a Machinist Mate on the USS Bremerton—specializing in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration—his naval career took him to Korea during the Korean War, where his ship both fired its 8‑inch guns and aided in rescuing downed pilots, as well as to Hong Kong, Formosa, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Hawaii. In June 1955, Vic was honorably discharged as a Machinist Mate Third Class.
Returning to Troy Mills, he married Anne Fuller Diltz and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture from Iowa State University in Ames, reflecting his lifelong passion for farming and agriculture. The couple later moved first to Waltham, Minnesota, and then settled on a family farm in Hayfield, where they raised five children and created a legacy rooted in hard work, love, and community.
Vic cherished the simple joys of life—whether he was playing cribbage, a hand of 500 cards or tending to his gladiola flowers, giving warm hugs, or taking his grandchildren to see the cows and pigs on his farm. His commitment to his community was evident in his long years of service as a commander in the Hayfield Legion, marching in parades, attending military funerals, organizing steak dinners, and always offering a helping hand. He managed the Waltham softball team, participated in a local golf league, and enjoyed quiet afternoons fishing. Vic attended Zion United Methodist Church and participated in mission trips to Haiti and other communities, building schools and lending support to those in need. He also loved getting together with all the Dvoraks at Thanksgiving.
In keeping with his generous spirit, Vic donated his body to science, ensuring that his legacy of service and compassion would continue to benefit others.
He is survived by a step-son, Bill Fuller; son, David Dvorak; daughter, Beth (Kevin) Feine; daughter, April (Mark) Aase; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; his living sibling, Ed (Sue) Dvorak; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Vic was preceded in death by his parents, Victor A. Dvorak and Helen (Bartos) Dvorak; his sisters, Helen Powell and Joy Buchan; his brother, Frank Dvorak; his daughter, Amy Sibet; his son-in-law, Reed Sibet; and his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Fuller.
A visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Saturday, March 1st at Zion United Methodist Church, 201 Main Street NE, Sargeant, MN 55973. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM with the Reverend Jon Marburger officiating, followed by a lunch.
