Rose Hofstad, 89, Pine Island

Rose M. Hofstad, 89, of Pine Island passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island.
Rose Marie Quall was born on Feb. 12, 1927 in Berne, MN to Emil and Edna (Hagre) Quall. Rose attended Pleasant Valley Country School. After school, Rose worked as a farm hand, and helped clean houses.
Rose married Gilman Hofstad after one date on November 29, 1945. They continued to live in Pleasant Valley where they raised their children. Rose worked a few jobs but she mostly enjoyed cooking at the Golden Fox where she was famous for her sugar cookies.
After Gilman passed in 1990, Rose retired and moved to Pine Island. She joined the Pine Island Senior Citizens and remained very active. Rose enjoyed going for drives, sight-seeing, going out to eat, playing cards, and spending time with family.
Rose is survived by her two sons, Larry (Judith) Hofstad of Hastings, and Don (Karen) Hofstad of Mantorville; five grandchildren, Bethany (Laurence), Russell, Anthony, Alex, and Annika; and two special friends, Conrad (Jean) Lechelt of Pine Island.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Gilman; daughter, Barbara Peterson; and one sister, Olive Andrist.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Stordahl Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathleen Lowery officiating. Burial was in the Stordahl Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Stordahl Lutheran Church and Pine Island Senior Citizens.
