Karen E. Ostroot-Cater, 90, Kasson
On March 2nd, 1934, a baby girl, Karen Elizabeth was born in Granite Falls to Martha and Oscar Anderson. Karen died at home surrounded by family on April 4th, 2024, and will be remembered for her sharp mind, sense of humor, and love of beauty.
After completion of her education at Granite Falls High School and the University of Minnesota, Karen worked as a dental hygienist for 4 years. Karen married her high school sweetheart, Roger Ostroot, and they enjoyed over 50 years of marriage. Roger worked as a dentist, and they worked together for the first years of their marriage. Karen and Roger had 3 children, Kristin (Herbert Bolte) of Wunnenburg Germany, Eric (Patty) of Kasson, and Solveig (deceased). Karen stayed home to take care of her children until they were of school age and then spent 20 years teaching dental assisting at Canby Area Vocational Technical Institute in Canby, MN.
After she retired, Karen enjoyed many hobbies including travel. She traveled extensively and even managed to visit all seven continents. Karen was active in her Church, including choir, bell choir, and volunteering at a preschool program at St. John’s Church in Kasson. At the age of 80 Karen married the second love of her life, David Cater (also 80) and they spent 10 lovely summers at Lake Ada in northern MN. Winters were spent in Texas visiting relatives or in their townhome in Kasson welcoming family and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her first husband Roger, her parents, sister Dorothy Seipp, and daughter Solveig. She will be greatly missed by husband, 2 children, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, niece (Barbi Seibert), and her many friends. Blessed be her memory.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson, with a luncheon to follow.
A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Pine River, on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Burial will be in Canby City Cemetery in Canby.
