Jeanette C. Underwood, 84, Owatonna

Jeanette C. Underwood, 84 of Owatonna, formerly of Blooming Prairie, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Traditions II of Owatonna.  

Jeanette was born July 24, 1931 in Blooming Prairie Township, to Anhart and Ina (Hjelman) Hansen.  She grew up in Blooming Prairie and graduated with the class of 1950 from Blooming Prairie High School.

Jeanette worked for a short time as a nanny, and then on October 25, 1952 she was united in marriage to Ronald L. Underwood in Las Vegas, Nevada.  

For many years Jeanette was employed as a bookkeeper and cashier at Super Valu in Blooming Prairie.  She loved sewing, gardening, cooking, wintering in Texas and spending time with family and friends.  Jeanette was a long time member of Eastern Star, the Legion Auxiliary and First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. 

 Jeanette is survived by her children, Brent (Roxanne) Underwood of Owatonna, Craig (Debbie) Underwood of Bloomington, Kurt (Terri) Underwood of Blooming Prairie, Corine (George) Hausen of Faribault; siblings Carol Wright of Austin, Robert (Judy) Hansen of Blooming Prairie, Marie Seykora of Owatonna, Eileen Peterson of Waseca, Helen (Virgil) Mehus of Rushford, Ann (Dale) Anderson of Ellendale, Karen (Wayne) Freiheit of Stewartville, Jim (Pat) Hansen of Austin, Judy (Dave) Livingston of Dodge Center, Gary (Lu) Hansen of Blooming Prairie, Terry (Robin) Hansen of Owatonna; sister-in-law Lois (Kenneth) Winzenburg; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends.  

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ronald L. Underwood (August 14, 2005); brothers Axel Hansen and Dean Hansen; brothers-in-law Ralph Wright, Stu Hansen, Jim Seykora, Clayton Peterson; sister-in-law June (Richard) Trom.

Funeral services were held at on April 18, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. Interment will follow in the Blooming Prairie City Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or recipient of donor’s choice. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
