James Hanson Gronseth, 90, Kasson

James Hanson Gronseth, 90, of Kasson, MN, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield.

James was born on January 8, 1933, in Sargeant to Albert and Emma (Hanson) Gronseth. He grew up in the Sargeant area, graduating from Austin High School. He then served two years in the US Army in the Korean conflict. After his return from his service, he farmed on their family farm in Sargeant township in Mower County.

James met the love of his life, Janice Kyllo, in the Evanger Lutheran Church parking lot while he was waiting for his parents to pick him up. They married on September 1, 1956, at Evanger Lutheran Church. Together they had two children, Rande and Brenda. He enjoyed playing cards, reading, eating popcorn and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He loved farming and milking cows. He was a devoted long-time member of Evanger Lutheran Church in Sargeant and Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. He held several office positions at his church and served on the church board, the Mower County Dairy Association Board and the First American Bank of Sargeant board. He was a clerk of Sargeant township for many years. He was also a member of the Hayfield American Legion Rothie Post 330.

James is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janice Gronseth; children, Brenda Gronseth and Rande (Tami) Gronseth; seven grandchildren, Zachary Gronseth, Isaac (Kelsey) Gronseth, Olivia (Zach) Felten, Sophia Gronseth, Sarina (Cameron) Baker, Henry James Gronseth, and Lila Gronseth; three great-grandchildren, Kittel, Emma, Canaan, and Baby Baker due in December.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Stanley, Frances, Charles, Adeline, Archie, Alice, Shirley, and Wallace.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church, 66632 300th St Dexter, with Pastor Mark Olson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Evanger Lutheran Church cemetery in Sargeant, with military honors provided by the Hayfield American Legion Rothie Post 330.
