Gregory Allen Rud, 59, Mantorville
Gregory Allen Rud, age 59, passed away peacefully in Mantorville, MN, on September 22, 2024. Known for his hard work, quick wit, and deep love for his family, Greg was a cherished husband, father and grandfather who brought joy to those around him.
Born on July 18, 1965, in Rochester, to Aden and Leola Rud, Greg grew up in Byron and graduated from Byron High School in 1983. He married Paula Ferdinandt and had three children: Alexis, Alysia, and Dallen, they later divorced. In 2016, he found love again with Martha, whom he married in 2022, gaining another daughter, Elly, in the process.
Greg dedicated himself to his community as a Byron First Responder for 26 years and served as the Head Coach for Byron Youth Wrestling. His career included 30 years for the City of Byron and 8 years with the City of Hayfield, culminating in his role as a consultant for the last two years. He also served as an Olmsted County Reserve Deputy, was a certified scuba diver, and an ordained minister, leaving a lasting impact on many lives.
Greg is survived by his wife, Martha; four children, Alexis (James) Olson, Alysia (Sam) Borowski, Dallen (Sam) Rud, and Elly Vrieze Olson; six grandchildren, Tate, Trent, Mavrik, Lane, Adalyn and Ivy; eight grand-dogs, whom he delighted in spoiling during the holidays. He is also survived by his siblings, Sue Jahraus, Tom (Vicki) Rud, Charlie (Sue) Rud, and David (Lynn) Rud, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Greg was preceded in death by his loving parents, Aden and Leola; brothers Donnie, Dale, and Gary; brother-in-law Bill; and the mother of his children, Paula.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Byron Funeral Home (1620 Voll Drive NW) in Byron. Memorial Service is on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 9:00 – 10:45 AM at Christ Lutheran Church (201 Frontage Road NW) in Byron. A celebration of life will be held following the service at 1:00 PM at Troy & Amy Jahraus’ home (5711 80th Ave SW; Byron, MN 55920).
