Dorothy Bauder, 74, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died on Sunday, January 25, 2015, in the Cottage at Ecumen, Detroit Lakes.
Dorothy was born on November 22, 1940, near Brookings, South Dakota, to Frank and Esther (Johnson) Roth. She grew up in South Dakota, graduating from Egan, South Dakota, High School in 1958. She graduated from South Dakota State University with a B.S. in Home Economics Education in 1962.
Dorothy married Darrell Bauder on June 24, 1962. She taught school in Frost, Minnesota, from 1962 until 1964, and then lived in Blooming Prairie from 1964 until 1985, where she operated a pre-school for fifteen years. They moved to Moorhead in 1985, where she worked at the Trinity Lutheran Pre-school from 1986 until 2005. She moved to Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes in 2012.
Dorothy loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was an excellent seamstress, loved to decorate and enjoyed needlework, baking and making lefse. She had been active in the Lutheran church throughout her life, enjoying Circle and Bible Studies, and directed the Christmas program for many years while living in Blooming Prairie. She also loved to travel.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Darrell Bauder, rural Frazee, Minnesota; daughters Brenda (Michael) Jensen, Owatonna, and Belinda (Jon) Freeman, Detroit Lakes; grandchildren Cameron Jensen, Sheldon Jensen, Ashton Jensen, Emilee Freeman and Zane Freeman; sisters Margaret (Richard) Hempel, Lennox, South Dakota, and Lorraine (John) Trei, Rockford, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joseph Roth.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Memorial gathering will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. Dorothy’s final resting place will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Brookings, South Dakota. Arrangements by Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, Minnesota.
