Beverly Jean Simonson, 85, Hayfield

Beverly Jean Simonson, 85, passed away at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfieldm, MN, on November 17, 2023. Beverly was born on November 3, 1938, the daughter of Fred and Leonna (Boysen) Geiser in Hayfield. She graduated from Hayfield High School in 1956 and was united in marriage to Sherman Simonson on September 14, 1957, at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Beverly worked at a hospital in Rochester, Lohn’s Red Owl in Hayfield, Aegean Cheese in Austin, and drove for Palmer Bus Services in Hayfield.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, and reading, but her favorite pastime was watching and feeding the birds. She could see the birds from the dining room table and always made sure that the feeders were filled so she could enjoy their company. Cardinals were her favorite and she collected quite a few of them.

Beverly had a carefree spirit that allowed her to take life one day at a time. She was very patient, didn’t get worked up over things and loved to just sit and watch the world go by.

Summer weekends were for getting out of the house. Whether it was attending an auction sale, bazaar, church, or town festival it was difficult to find her home on a Saturday. In the fall, it was the Lutefisk suppers at various churches that she looked forward to most.

She always loved accompanying Sherman across multiple states to attend Fiddling competitions multiple times a year. She especially enjoyed their yearly trip to Yankton, SD.

She suffered a stroke on June 16, 2016 that left her paralyzed on her right side and confined to a wheelchair. She did not let this put a damper on her personality or her spunk. She was a champ at bingo, loved all the excursions they had and definitely liked to keep that staff on their toes.

Beverly is survived by her husband, Sherman Simonson, Sargeant; children, Lynn (Tom) Meyer, Mankato; Shawn (Tami) Simonson, Lake Crystal; daughter-in-law, Linda Simonson, Glencoe; sister, Renata LeBarron, Albert Lea; four grandchildren, Ryker Meyer, Syrena Meyer, Zachary Simonson, and Noah Simonson. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Richard, and one son, Kevin.A

Visitation will be held at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home on Monday, November 27 from 4:00-7:00 pm. A memorial service will be at Evanger Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 28 at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be in Evanger Lutheran Cemetery. Blessed be her memory.
