Ardis Jean Grovdahl, 79, of Kasson, MN passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Friday, April 19, 2024, while a patient at Mayo Clinic St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Ardis was born on August 6, 1944, in Kasson to Burton Sr. and Melvina (Jorgenson) Fjerstad. Ardis was raised and lived most of her life in Kasson. She grew up with sisters: Sharon, Donna, Eileen and Lavonne, and one brother, Burton Jr. She graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School in 1962. Ardis immediately began her career as a medical secretary at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Ardis continued to work in various positions for the Mayo Clinic for 40 years, ending her career in 2002 as an administrator of the Kasson Mayo Family Practice Clinic, and overseeing the residency program.
Ardis was united in marriage to Herb Grovdahl at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson on April 22, 1967. Their two daughters, Keri and Alyssa, were born and raised in Kasson. Ardis treasured all of her relationships, especially her daughters and spouses, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and her Godchildren and the many friends she spent time with over the years. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a pillar in her church and served on several committees, including Church Council, the Lutefisk Committee, and held numerous other volunteer and committee positions. She had most recently volunteered to chair the St. John’s history committee. If there was something to be done at church, you can bet that Ardis would get involved. Ardis most enjoyed attending school, church and sporting events for her children, and later, grandchildren and extended family. She was her grandkids biggest fan! In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing, particularly the Polish Hop, as well as card club and going camping with her family. She also enjoyed theater performances and scenic drives, taking in the fall colors and Christmas lights. Connecting with others at lunch bunch, coffee group, prayer group, and church circle brought her great fulfillment. Ardis was known for her leadership, organization and thorough communication. Ardis truly loved her independence and was able to enjoy staying in her home and taking care of herself until Jesus called her home.
