Chaotic Good Brewing closing Dec. 23
After four years of selling locally brewed craft beers, Chaotic Good Brewing in Kasson is closing its doors next week on Dec. 23. Owner Scott Stroh and is wife, Molly, announced the closing in a Facebook post last week.
In announcing the closing, the Strohs said, “Now it is time for our adventure to end. With a flood of emotions and many tears we have to announce that Monday, December 23, will be our final day open. We have poured our heart and soul into Chaotic Good, and we have had the support of so many amazing people in this community. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to keep it up.”
Stroh did not give any specific reasons for the closing and said later last week a variety of factors were in play including his young family and some health issues. It is just time, he said.
He added that the business is for sale and there is interest in purchasing it if those involved can find partners.
Chaotic Good Brewing has been a family affair, he said, including Molly, along with his parents.
Stroh said he had been brewing beer as a hobby for years and got into the business four years ago while still working as a teacher in Rochester. It was two years ago when he decided to move his brewing into a building where he could serve beer on the premises and purchased the old car wash in downtown Kasson. Most of the remodeling work, he said, was done by himself and his father.
Stroh said he got into the business just as COVID was taking hold which made it harder to get funding. The COVID funding that was made available, he said, was for businesses that had been in operation previously. As a new business he had no previous financial history to get one of the loans, he said.
Chaotic Good Brewing, he said, filled a unique space in the Kasson community. Chaotic Good Brewing provided a place where families could come, the adults could enjoy a beer and the family could have a meal and talk and play games, including Dungeons and Dragons, without being pushed to simply eat and leave.
They also hosted numerous events for community organizations, he said.
That family atmosphere, Stroh said, is something he wants any future buyer of Chaotic Good Brewing to continue.
Stroh said he is currently back to teaching science, parttime in Rochester. He plans, however, to continue brewing beer as a hobby and would not rule out potentially helping any new owners with the business.
There is still time to stop in, he said. The final D& D night is tonight, Thursday, Dec. 19. And on Monday it’s the “last day to kill the kegs.”
“We cannot express how honored we have been to share a pint with this amazing community,” the Strohs said in announcing the closure. “We will carry these memories for a lifetime. Thanks for all the great memories.”
