Byron to dedicate Veterans Memorial on Monday
Memorial Day activities are scheduled throughout the local area on Monday including the dedication of the Byron Veterans Memorial.
The memorial has been in the works for more than a decade, organizers said. Byron’s Memorial Day activities will begin with a ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Byron Cemetery, the corner of 1st Ave. NE and 7th St. NE.
The ceremony at the memorial, including the flag raising and dedication will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the Bear Roundabout.
Memorial Day activities are also scheduled for Kasson, Mantorville, Hayfield, Dodge Center, Claremont and West Concord.
The Kasson American Legion will have cemetery services beginning at 8 a.m. in Rock Dell. They will then continue to East St. Olaf at 8:15 a.m., South Zumbro at 8:30 a.m., Maple Grove at 8:55 a.m., Milton at 9:20 a.m., Berne at 9:45 a.m., the Mantorville Bridge at 10:10 a.m., St. Maragaret’s at 10:25 a.m. and Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville at 10:35 a.m.
The Memorial Day Program will begin at 11 a.m. at the Kasson-Mantorville High School auditorium. Patriotic music by the K-M band will begin at 10:50 a.m.
Todd Nelson will give the welcome and lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Pastor Rex Edge will give the opening prayer. Guest speaker will be Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose.
There will be musical selections by the K-M band and Enner Fjerstad, placing of the wreath by the Kasson Legion Auxiliary and a closing prayer by Pastor Rex Edge.
The program will end with a firing squad salute by the Kasson American Legion, color guard, and taps, with echo, by K-M trumpet players.
After the program there will be a free will offering lunch upstairs at the Kasson American Legion Post.
In Hayfield, Legion Post 330, will have services at area cemeteries, beginning with West St. Olaf at 8:15 a.m. Approximate times for the remaining cemeteries will be 8:35 a.m. at Evanger, 9:05 a.m. at St. John’s — south of Sargeant, 9:25 a.m. at Waltham — south of Waltham on Highway 56, 9:45 a.m. at Greenwood — south of Brownsdale,10:05 a.m. at St. Michael’s in Waltham, and 11 a.m. at Fairview in Hayfield.
The Memorial Day program will be at 11:30 a.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park in downtown Hayfield.
In case of inclement weather, the program will be at the Hayfield High School gym. There will be a chicken dinner served at the American Legion from 11L30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Dodge Center will have Memorial Day Services beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery with Chaplain Roger Langworthy as the speaker and the Triton High School Band performing musical selections.
Following the program there will be a quick ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at 10 a.m. and another at theWasiojabridge at 10:30 a.m. At 10:35 a.m. there will be a program at the Wasioja Cemetery, also with Langworthy as the speaker, and at 11 a.m. at the WasiojaSchool. All times are approximate.
In case of rain the program will be moved to the Dodge Center American Legion.
The West Concord Legion will be at Hegre Cemetery on Highway 56 north of West Concord at 9 a.m. and at 9:15 a.m. at St. Vincent Cemetery.
The Memorial Day program will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Concord Cemetery. In the event of inclement weather the program will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Historical Museum and Community Center, 600 W. First St., West Concord.
Legion Post 295 and the Auxiliary will have refreshments available at the Post Hall on Main Street from 8 to 10 a.m.
Claremont Legion members will have services at Claremont Street Cemetery at 8 a.m., Moland Church at 8:45 a.m., Rice Lake Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., St. John’s Church at 10:15 a.m. and Hillside Cemetery at 11 a.m. In case of inclement weather there will be a service at the Claremont Legion Hall at 11 a.m.
