SIGNING DAY
As any high school athlete heads toward the end of their high school careers, the chance to play their respective sport collegiately is an honor that many don’t to get to receive. With the months winding down before they move on to their college of choosing, National Signing Day is the opportunity to make that dream official as they sign their letter of intent.
Four athletes signed their letter of intent at Kasson- Mantorville High School last week and all have had decorated high school careers that have led to this moment.
K-M volleyball standout Peyton Suess was the first to make her comittment official as she signed to play at Wake Forest. Suess will be bound for Winston-Salem after a five- year career at the varsity level in which she set the volleyball program’s records for blocks, kills and single season kills. She was also named a finalist for the Ms. Baden Volleyball Award, which is given to the top senior in the state of Minnesota.
K-M wrestling standouts Robby Horsman and Grant Parrish also made things official by signing their letters of intent to head to St. Cloud State. The Huskies will be getting a pair of gems from KoMet Country, both wrestlers placed at last year’s state tournament.
Horsman took home third place in the 120-pound Class AA bracket last March while Parrish finished fourth in the 170-pound Class AAA bracket as a member of Forest Lake.
K-M track and field athlete McKenzie Evans made her commitment official by signing her NLI to run for the Bemidji State Beavers next fall. Evans has made her mark in the 800m run for the
KoMets, an event in which she finished fifth in the Section 1AA Championships last spring.
History was also made with these signings as swimmer Olivia Wilcox signed to continue her career at Youngstown State. Wilcox has been a member of the Rochester Swim Club for the past 10 years and will be the first K-M graduate to go on to swim collegiately. As a sprinter, Wilcox was recruited for her ability in the backstroke and freestyle, making her a perfect addition to the Penguins’ roster next fall.
