Lending a hand in an off-court battle

Over the summer, K-M alum Braxton Raymond was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. During times such as the one that Raymond is going through, it’s always nice to know that a family is there to have your back.

The K-M community has been no exception to this rule as it has played a huge role in Raymond’s fight against cancer. In addition to providing meals, gift cards and anything else that would help him and his family through this tough time, the K-M boys basketball team has found a way to help even more by adding a shirt with the initials BR23 on the sleeve to help raise funds for his fight.

“We really wanted to show our support for Braxton,” K-M boys basketball head coach Nick Pocius said. “We also wanted to help raise funds to help support him and his family as they are on their journey to defeat his cancer.”

Raymond made an impact during his time at K-M as he became the school's all-time leading scorer back in February of 2016. While there was plenty of success for him and the KoMets on the court, there were plenty of friendships made off it, which has made the decision to step up and help Raymond an easy one.

“Helping others always brings people together,” Pocius explained. “We hope in our program that we can always help and support others in any way they need to bring them happiness and joy.”

The shirt sales ended on Sunday.
